About Blueprint

We teach the way we work

Blueprint is a small learning studio founded by designer Maya Ellison. Everything we make comes from real projects, and everything we teach, we still do.

How it started

In 2019 I wrote a ten-page guide to running user interviews for a friend. Within a month, four thousand people had downloaded it.

That guide became the first version of UX Design Foundations. Learners asked for the templates I used, so I opened a small shop. They asked for somewhere to meet and keep going, so we started the membership.

Today Blueprint is me, three guest instructors and a part-time support team. We still answer every email ourselves.

What we believe

  • Learn by making

Every course ends with a project you can show, not a quiz you forget.

  • Nothing padded

Short lessons, no filler. If a lesson can be five minutes, it is.

  • Real feedback

People, not robots, read your projects and reply in writing.

  • Always current

Courses and templates are updated for free when tools change.

How a course is made

It takes about four months to make a course. Here's where the time goes.

  1. Start from a real project

Each course is built around a project we have done for a client or ourselves.

  2. Test with learners

A group of twenty learners takes every course before launch and tells us what was unclear.

  3. Record and caption

Lessons are recorded in short takes, captioned and transcribed by people.

  4. Keep it current

We review every course each year and update it free for everyone who bought it.

Want to teach with us?

We invite one or two guest instructors a year. If you're a practitioner with something specific to teach, we'd love to hear from you.
